Marina Abramovic (Belgrade, 30 November 1946) is an artist Montenegrin active in the field of performance art. Among his best known works include Bed from Room 1994 Mineral Cleaning and Mirror That of 1995.
He won the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 1997. Abramović's work explores the relationship between performer and audience, the limits of the body and the possibilities of the mind.
In her first performance Abramović explored elements of the ritual gesture. Using twenty knives and two tape recorders, the artist performs a Russian game in which rhythmic strokes of the knife is routed between the open fingers of the hand. Every time you cut, it must take a new knife from the row of twenty who has prepared, and the operation is recorded. After cutting off her twenty times, the artist shifts the recording, listen to the sounds and try to repeat the same movements, attempting to replicate the mistakes, mixing past and present. Try to explore the physical and mental limitations of the body: "Once you have entered in the state of execution, you can push your body to do things that you could absolutely never do normally."
